Whisper & Shout will take place at the Contemporary Art Center beginning at 8 pm. Featuring hosts Ryan Lowry and Whitney Jensen with DJ YV, water and soda are available at the bar and attendees may bring their own food and drink or bring in food and drink from the the Rhythm Kitchen. Featured Poet: Louis Conphliction. Admission is $5 for members, $8 for the public and $3 for poets* and are available in advance at https://309tix.com *Purchasing a Poet Ticket is a commitment to share your poetry on stage. If you don't plan to read, then don't purchase a poet level ticket. Louis Conphliction promotes self-love and self-awareness centered movement, utilizing mentorship, eclectic beats and empowering words. He is the host of Pagedale's annual Red Ribbon Drug Prevention Program. He also teaches workshops and is a mentor for several organizations, including Poetry for Personal Power, Provident Counseling and The St. Louis Juvenile Detention Center. When he's not creating change, he's touring/performing throughout the nation and participating in and winning poetry competitions. He performed at the 2015 Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles. The CAC also participates in the First Fridays Studio Tours every month.

Penguin Project - Aladdin Jr.fri16jan7:30 pm

The Penguin Project will present Aladdin Jr. at Eastlight Theatre (located within the East Peoria High School Auditorium) beginning at 7:30 pm on Friday & Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday. This production is unique, because all of the roles are filled by children with developmental disabilities including Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and other neurological disorders. They are joined on stage by their “peer mentors”, a group of children the same age without disabilities, who have volunteered to work with them side-by-side and guide them through 4 months of rehearsals and the final production. By creating unrestricted access to the performing arts, The Penguin Project® demonstrates that the special challenges of a disability need not handicap a child’s ability to participate in life’s experiences.
