For Farmer’s Market fans, you’re in luck – Farmer’s Market season is returning for 2021. Whether you’re looking for fresh produce or unique craft items or live entertainment, you’ll find it at one of the several markets in the Peoria area. You have several markets to choose from each with its own unique mix of vendors, crafts, live entertainment, and other features. Most open in May or early June and run throughout the summer.
The Peoria Riverfront Market opens Saturday, May 22nd and runs through Saturday, September 25 from 8 am – Noon each week. Located in the 200 Block of Water Street directly across from the Peoria Riverfront Museum) the Peoria area’s largest farmers’ and artists’ market features fresh produce, local meats, eggs, berries, bread, and cheeses. Everything is locally grown and brought directly from farms and gardens each week. You’ll also find a one-of-a-kind selection of art including pottery, blown glass, jewelry, wood turned items, candles, soaps, and more all handcrafted by local artists.
Market organizer Sharon Graham estimates that there will be approximately 80 vendors this year. New vendors this year will be a tea vendor, baked goods vendors, and more arts & crafts, vendors. The Metro Centre Farmer’s Market is the longest-running market in the Peoria area starting in 1977. It opens on Saturday, June 5 beginning at 8 am. The East Peoria Levee District Farmer’s Market runs Friday, June 4 through Friday, September 24 from 4 – 7 pm each week. Located in the retail area bounded by West Washington Street, Clock Tower Drive, West Camp Street and Spinder Drive, vendors sell fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, plants, eggs, poultry, baked goods, and jellies and jams, all produced within the State of Illinois. The Tianguis market is a Mexican weekly open-air market returning for the 2021 season on Saturdays from 10 am – 2 pm beginning June 5 and running through September 25. Located at the corners of 306 Pecan St. & SW Adams in downtown Peoria, it is the largest market in the area aimed at the bilingual and Hispanic community and is a vibrant, fun, and family-friendly environment. The Morton Farmer’s Market opens on Tuesday, June 1 from 3:30 – 6:30 pm and through August 31. Located at 225 E. Jefferson Street (parking lot across from Jefferson Elementary School), the Morton market will include locally grown vegetables, sweets, crafts plus Morton area businesses. New this year is the Pekin Farmers’ Market at Miller Center at 551 S. 14th Street in Pekin across from the Mineral Springs Park lagoon. Open on Thursdays May through September from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, the market features fresh, local produce, homemade products, and treats. There will also be food carts and entertainment too. Also new this year is the Keller Station’s Farmers Market at 6305 N. Knoxville in Peoria. Offering a mix of locally grown and raised meats, fruits, and veggies, hand-made products, and more, the market opens May 12 and runs every Wednesday from 4 – 7 pm through September 29. And the final new market in the area in 2021 is the Obed & Isaac’s Cornerstone Moonlight Market held the first Thursday of each month from May through October from 5:30 – 8 pm. Located in downtown Peoria at the corners of Madison and Spaulding in the historic 1889 church building, the market offers local craft vendors, farmers, artists, and artisans from around the Central Illinois area.
