Dig out your lance and Renaissance garb – – it’s nearly time for the Olde English Faire. Taking place at Wildlife Prairie Park from June 21-23, the Faire brings the Middle Ages to life through food, fun and merchants. Experience Illinois’s only annual Renaissance fair right here in Central Illinois.
On Friday, Park members can enjoy free admission to the Faire. Students can experience what the life of a knight might have looked like, as well as watch a full contact jousting match by the Knights of Valour at Noon. See replica medieval weaponry, learn the duties of knighthood and cheer on your favorite knight at 1 pm and 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
To further immerse into the medieval culture, a feast will be prepared on Saturday and Sunday from 1 – 3 pm. The King’s Feast will include roasted chicken, beef ribs, roasted vegetables and dessert along with live entertainment plus VIP seating for the 3 pm joust. Be prepared – there are no utensils for this Renaissance meal and seating is limited. Tickets for the meal are $50 and includes admission when ordered before June 20.
Stop for a pint at the tavern while listening to the King’s minstrels. Or, attend one of the many shows around the castle featuring falconry, archery, medieval comedy show or find medieval vendors selling trinkets, clothing, singers, archery plus enjoy turkey legs, meat pies, kettle corn, drinks and more.
Guests are encouraged to dress for the theme of the fair in any kind of medieval costume ranging from royal princesses and peasants to fairies, jesters and by doing so, you’ll receive a $1 off your admission.
The Olde English Faire will be open from 9 am – 5 pm each day. Admission into the faire is $10 adults ages 13 and up, $6 for children ages 6-12 and free for ages 2 and under. Parking is $5 per car.
