Whisper & Shout will take place at the Contemporary Art Center beginning at 8 pm. Featuring hosts Ryan Lowry and Whitney Jensen with DJ YV, water and soda are available at the bar and attendees may bring their own food and drink or bring in food and drink from the the Rhythm Kitchen.  Featured Poet: Eve Bell.  Advanced tickets are $5 for members, $8 for the public and $3 for poets* and are available in advance at https://309tix.com *Purchasing a Poet Ticket is a commitment to share your poetry on stage. If you don't plan to read, then don't purchase a poet level ticket. In 2007, 2008, and 2010, Eve Bell received the “Viewer’s Choice Award” from Poetry.com. In 2014, she was named “Best Poet” at a Local Black Expo event held annually in Peoria, Illinois. She has been featured poet at “Whisper & Shout” in 2020 and 2021. She has competed in the “Gods And Goddesses” National Poetry Slam, held in Rockford, Illinois.

Peoria Area World Affairs Council will host Defending Life & Land: Indigenous Rights, the Amazon, and Environmental Justice at Westlake Hall Room 116 at Bradley University (located at N. Glenwood Avenue and Tobias Lane in Peoria) beginning with dinner at 5:30 pm.  Speaker Carlos Salinas will examine how Indigenous leadership, human rights law, and global accountability intersect, and what international environmental justice looks like in practice today.  Tickets range from free for students to $45 for the general public including reception, film and discussion and are available at https://peoria-area-world-affairs-council.square.site
Carlos Salinas is the former Acting Director of Government Relations at Amnesty International USA and a longtime partner of the Kofan (A’i) Indigenous people of the Colombian Amazon. This event explores how Indigenous communities defend their land, culture, and autonomy in the face of environmental destruction and political pressure.

The story follows Callie, a New York City radio traffic reporter, and Sara, a schoolteacher from the Midwest who moves to the city to teach third-grade students in the Bronx. Both women have boyfriends, but as their friendship deepens, they slowly discover they might be falling in love. Their tentative first kiss in public provokes a violent hate crime, changing their lives in ways they couldn’t have predicted. What begins as a connection between strangers becomes the center of a powerful, surprising journey.
