The 10th Annual Festival of Trees kicks off tonight (Thursday) with a Jingle & Mingle Cocktail Party at the Life Together Center (located at 3625 N. Sheridan Rd. in Peoria) from 5:30 - 8:30 pm. The Festival continues on Friday from 10 am - 6 pm, Saturday Noon - 5 pm and Sunday 11 am - 4 pm. Featuring 80 pre-decorated trees and wreaths, centerpieces and other holiday decor items on display and for bidding to take home, other highlights from the weekend will include a brunch, a family fun day with Santa and a Sweet Sundae Tea. All proceeds benefit Crittenton Centers. Admission for the Thursday event is $50, the Sweet Tea on Sunday is $25 per person and for the rest of the festival is $6 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and children aged 3 - 14 and free for kids aged 2 and under. Horizons of Gold, a new musical, will take place at Peoria Christian School (located at 3506 N. California Avenue Peoria) tonight (Thursday) through Saturday beginning at 6:30 pm each night. She Kills Monsters continues at Bradley University's Hartmann Center for the Performing Arts on the Bradley Campus tonight (Thursday), Friday & Saturday at 7:30 pm and on Sunday at 2 pm. Columbinus continues at the ICC Performing Arts Center beginning at 7:30 pm on Friday & Saturday and at 2:30 pm on Sunday. Columbinus is a wrenching return to the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School when 12 students and a teacher were killed when two senior classmates went on a shooting rampage. Because it is rated R for extreme language, adult situations and violence, no one under age 18 will be permitted. CityLink's 5th Annual "Day of Stuffing" will take place at Kroger (located at 801 W. Lake Ave. in Peoria) on Friday from 6 am - 6 pm. Bring pantry donations or purchase items at Kroger to fill the bus with food as part of the annual food drive benefiting Peoria Friendship House. For more information, visit
The Annual Motherhouse Bazaar sponsored by The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis (located at 1175 St. Francis Ln. in East Peoria) will take place on Friday from 9 am - 5 pm and on Saturday from 9 am - 2 pm. Featuring handmade items and homemade baked goods including home-baked breads and cookies, fresh doughnuts, Christmas decorations, jewelry, plants, religious items and other handmade items, all proceeds will be used to assist the poor. The Holiday Red Barn Show will take place at 6 Tremont businesses featuring unique handmade and vintage gifts on Friday & Saturday from 9 am - 3 pm. Prizes and gifts will be awarded to those who visit each of the locations. Admission is free. For full details, click HERE
A Barn Dance will be held at Shore Acres (located at 100 Park Blvd. in Chillicothe) on Friday beginning at 7 pm. Featuring the string band, The Young and the Fretless, beginners may learn the dances at 6:45 pm and no partner is needed. Admission is $7 for adults with a $20 family maximum. A Thanksgiving RiverFront Market will take place in the 200 block of Water Street (or inside the Gateway Building at 200 NE Water Street if the weather is inclement) on Saturday from 8 am - Noon. An Open House commemorating the Washington Tornado of November 17, 2013 will take place at the Washington Fire Station (located at 200 N. Wilmor Road in Washington) on Saturday beginning at 8:30 pm with a free continental breakfast. A remembrance service will begin at 9 am and a video documenting the aftermath and the city's rebuilding will be displayed throughout the event. Admission is free. A Fall Festival Vendor & Craft Show will take place at The Pekin Moose Lodge (located at 2605 Broadway St. in Pekin) on Saturday  from Noon -4 pm. Featuring vendors selling popular holiday gifts, proceeds will provide winter coats, hygiene items, general clothing and shoes, Christmas stockings and gifts to needy families in the community. A Nature Art Show and Sale Open House will take place at Forest Park Nature Center (located at 5809 N Forest Park Dr. in Peoria Heights) on Saturday from 2 - 4 pm. The Show continues through New Year's Eve Mondays - Saturdays from 9 am - 5 pm and Sundays from 1 - 5 pm (except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day). The 34th Annual Festival of Lights Parade will take place on Saturday in East Peoria on Saturday beginning at 5:45 pm. The parade covers three miles of Washington Street starting on one side of the city and ending just past downtown featuring floats shaped entirely from LED lights. A Kid's Night Out will take place at Peoria Elite Gymnastics Academy (located at 2240 W Altorfer Dr. in Peoria) on Saturday from 6 - 9:30 pm. Featuring games, pizza plus supervised play on gymnastic equipment, trampolines, tumble trak, foam pits and a zipline. Cabernet & Clay will take place at the Riverfront Museum on Saturday from 6:30 - 9 pm. Al Corpuz, a local teacher and artist, will guide you in variety of ceramic techniques, including glazing, wheel throwing, and hand-building to create a fully finished piece take home with you after they fire and glaze it for you.
A Wine & Art Night will take place at the Riverfront Museum also on Saturday from 7 - 9 pm. Eugene Nana Ekow Maison, a local artist, will guide you in creating your own unique version of Sunflowers by Van Gogh to take home with you. Cost for either event is $30 for members or $36 for the public and includes all materials, wine and light snacks. Participants must be 21 or older and seating is limited. The Peoria Train Fair will take place on Illinois Central College's East Peoria campus on Sunday from 10 am - 3 pm. Featuring DVDs, videos, books, and photos, as well as many model railroad parts and supplies will be available. Displays will also highlight new and used items from most scales including Lionel, G, O, HO, N and Z. Real railroad memorabilia will be available including hats, shirts, patches, and pins. Sponsored by the Illinois Valley Model Railroad Club in Peoria and Pekin's River City Model Railroad Club, admission is $3 for adults and free for kids 12 and under when accompanied by an adult. Peoria's oldest running race, the 48th Annual Turkey Trot, will take place at Detweiller Park (located at 8327 N Galena Rd. in Peoria) on Sunday at 1 pm. Despite rain, shine or snow, the 4-mile run and the 1/2 mile youth fun-run that will take place immediately before, the top two finishers in each division will receive a trophy and a turkey. The Festi-Fall Vendor and Craft Show will take place at the Holiday Inn and Suites Grand Prairie (located at 7601 North Orange Prairie Road in Peoria) on Sunday from 1 - 6 pm. Handel's Messiah will performed at Grace Church (located at 1325 E Jefferson St. in Morton) on Sunday at 2:30 pm. The Illinois Central Jazz Train will perform at the November Jazz Nights in the Heights Concert Series at the Trailside Event Center above Trefzger's Bakery (located at 4416 N Prospect Road in Peoria Heights) on Sunday at 6 pm.
