Looking for Fun Things To Do With Kids in Peoria This Fall? One of the best ways to enjoy autumn in Peoria is to visit one of the area apple orchards or pumpkin patches with the family.
Probably the most famous apple orchards in the Peoria area is Tanners Orchard which is located in Speer, approximately 20 miles north of Peoria on Knoxville Ave. Tanners is far more than just an orchard. In addition to the U-Pick apples and pumpkins, in the fall you’ll definitely want to visit their Corn Maze which opens on the first Saturday in September and runs through October from 10 am – 5 pm. Every year, there’s a different theme for the Corn Maze. U-Pick apples & pumpkins also begin in September. On Festival days (Saturdays & Sundays), you can enjoy a wagon ride through the orchard.
Other attractions at Tanners, which is celebrating their 75th anniversary this year, include the “Back 40” Fun with many kids activities plus farm animals including chickens, rabbits, goats, llamas and “unicorns”. Plus, Tanners Sunflower Experience on August 20 & August 27 offers breakfast featuring their cinnamon apple pie French toast with whipped cream with apple butter syrup along with photo ops of their sunflower field. Another great fall family activity is to visit a pumpkin patch and choose a Halloween pumpkin to carve. Roth’s Pumpkin Patch in Morton is one of the most popular places for finding that perfect pumpkin. In 2022, they open on Monday, September 12th with the season running through October 31st. In addition to pumpkins, they offer field trips for groups plus “Pumpkin Park” with playground featuring a giant slide , a pedal pusher trike track, a straw bale maze and a jumbo jumpy pillow plus farm animals including lambs, goats and chickens. Other apple orchards in the area include Christ Orchard in Elmwood, Arends Orchard in Laura and Ackerman Family Farms in Morton (they have pumpkins too). Other pumpkin patches in the area include Zaiser Pumpkin Farm in Washington, the Pumpkin Place in Princeville and Hilly Lane Pumpkins in Sparland.
