The Penguin Project will present Aladdin Jr. at Eastlight Theatre (located within the East Peoria High School Auditorium) beginning at 7:30 pm on Friday & Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday.  This production is unique, because all of the roles are filled by children with developmental disabilities including Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and other neurological disorders. They are joined on stage by their “peer mentors”, a group of children the same age without disabilities, who have volunteered to work with them side-by-side and guide them through 4 months of rehearsals and the final production.  By creating unrestricted access to the performing arts, The Penguin Project® demonstrates that the special challenges of a disability need not handicap a child’s ability to participate in life’s experiences.  Tickets are $14 and are available at the box office at 309-699-7469 or online at www.eastlighttheatre.com  For more information about the Penguin Project, visit http://penguinprojectpeoria.org Please note: An ASL interpreter is available for the Sunday, January 18 performance.

Pub Night Under the Stars: Orion, King of the Winter Sky will take place at the Peoria Riverfront Museum Dome Planetarium from 7 - 9 pm.  Tour the winter constellations, and zoom in on deep sky images of the Milky Way. Planetarium Director Renae Kerrigan will share the mythology of the Orion constellation in cultures from around the world, and a telescope view of some of the beautiful nebulae and deep sky objects found in the Milky Way near the Orion constellation.  End the evening with a flight to the edge of space and back.  Each guest receives an individual snack box featuring nachos, cheese, pretzels, fruit & nuts, up to three servings of beer, seltzer or soda for your evening under the stars.  The program will be in two parts, allowing time to socialize and get more refreshments between shows.
