The Peoria German-American Society will host their annual Volksfest at Hickory Grove Park (located at 12403 N Hickory Grove Rd. in Dunlap) from noon - 8 pm. The family friendly event will feature activities including nagelspielen (a German nail game), soccer, a German gift tent with imported items from Germany plus a kids play area. Live entertainment will be provided by Eddie Korosa from Chicago, Al's Pals Polka Band, and the Lindenhof Echoes. Full German dinners including bratwurst, Heidelburgers, porksicles, German potato salad, and more will be available until 6 pm. Sandwiches and a Bavarian pretzel booth will also be available throughout the day. German and domestic beer, soft drinks and a cash bar will also be available for purchase. Admission is free. Volksfests, or “People’s Festivals,” are a cherished German tradition, and the Peoria German American Central Society has proudly carried on this legacy since the 1930s. This year’s festival promises a vibrant celebration of German heritage, offering something for everyone in the warm, welcoming atmosphere of a traditional German Biergarten.
No dogs or outside coolers allowed during the fest. We do permit service animals. We do have a drop off zone for elderly, handicapped and those with small children. This is a Cash-only event; no ATM on site – please plan accordingly.
