The 20th Annual Historic Springdale Cemetery Tours will take place at the Cemetery (located at 3014 N Prospect Rd. in Peoria) at 5:30 pm for a twilight tour. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for for children under 13. Reservations are preferred, but walk-ins always welcomed. During the tours, patrons will be guided on a short walk through a section of Springdale Cemetery to visit five different prominent Peorians from the past.This year’s characters will include:
Anna Elizabeth Slough (1799-1878) Pioneer woman who traveled from Pennsylvania to Peoria with her 3 year old son.Edgar Foster (1863-1951) - Owner of the Peoira Paper Box Factory & community philanthropist.Susan Brown (1831-1932) - Purchased the land that became the location of the Mu Delta Chapter House at Bradley University.Amanda Costly Lewis (1834-1900) - Daughter of Nance Costly, the first slave who hired Abraham Lincoln to legally free her.Lemon Wiley (1844-1912) - Civil war veteran who was also a famous musician, even playing for the Queen of England.
