The musical tells the story of a young girl named Ti Moune who lives on a Caribbean Island. The musical is based on the 1985 novel “My Love, My Love, or the Peasant Girl” by Rosa Guy, which is a Caribbean-set retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, “The Little Mermaid. Ti Moune falls in love with a wealthy boy from the other side of the island, and the story unfolds against the backdrop of social divisions. Ti Moune makes a deal with the gods to save the life of the one she loves. The musical explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the power of storytelling.
