A Juneteenth Celebration will take place at the Contemporary Art Center (located at 305 SW Water St. in Peoria) beginning at 6:30 pm.  Featuring Reverend Marvin Hightower, President of NAACP Peoria and Senior Pastor of Liberty Church, who will speak about protecting our civil liberties and democracy, artist and CAC founder Preston Jackson will provide insights into his sculpture and paintings exhibited in the gallery, organizer/educator Spanky Edwards will reflect upon his relationship with CT Vivian and how he served Martin Luther King Jr. Both Spanky and Preston will share their desire to see monuments erected in his name, in Macomb, Atlanta and Peoria. Also performing will be Mickeisha Armstrong with spoken word poetry and Bloomington based band Soft Spoken will provide live music.  Admission is free. Contemporary Art Center

The Contemporary Art Center of Peoria is located on the Peoria riverfront and offers exhibits, live music as well as classes.  Their popular live entertainment includes Live at the Five Spot which takes place on Friday evenings, as well as Peoria’s Open Mic for Poetry, Whisper & Shout, the first Thursday of the month.  The CAC also participates in the First Fridays Studio Tours every month.
