Peoria Festivals

The Annual Cherry Festival in Washington is a 4 day event to celebrate Washington and the surrounding communities. Attendance in the past has been approximately 40,000. Some of the annual highlights include: a Community Night and Dinner, Merchant’s Tent, amusement rides, fireworks, main stage entertainment with live bands and Cherry Oke, children’s events, pancake breakfast, family bike ride and much more. A few new events are in the works for 2009, including a Cherry Cooking Contest and a Disc Golf Tournament. The 5K Run & 1K Fun Walk is back for a second year. For more information, click HERE.

Dunlap Days is a two day event featuring several of the local vendors, artists, and entertainers. The event features local restaurants, businesses, flea market tables, entertainment, crafts, and fun for the entire family! For more information, click HERE.

1981 was the first Erin Feis event was held outdoors in Peoria. Entertainment on stage featured local bagpipers and the Barley's, a local Irish group. Several of the large tents served corned beef and cabbage along with some other great Irish foods, beverages, and merchandise vendors. The new Erin Feis T-shirts sold fast, and the money raised paid for the next Erin Feis and the Saint Patrick's Day Parade.

Due to great success from the first Erin Feis, the event was moved to the exhibit hall at Exposition Gardens for several years. Returning to entertain was The Barley's, a Chicago group Baal Tinne (who returned in 2005 and 2006), and the Brogue from Kilkenny, Ireland. The Trinity Academy of Irish Dance of Peoria made their first appearance along with the Peoria Celtic Bag Pipers (to be later known as the Celtic Cross Drum and Bagpipers). Booths containing historic Irish memorabilia and art along with several other vendors having merchandise for sale were a great success.

The Saint Patrick Society of Peoria partnered with the Peoria Park District in 1997, moving Erin Feis to the Peoria Riverfront as the Riverfront Park in downtown Peoria was completed. Erin Feis was then expanded to Saturday and Sunday. Then in 2002, Erin Feis expanded into a 3-day event. Over the years, the Erin Feis Committee has maintained many original traditions while still expanding them at the same time.

Erin Feis serves as a family event where friends meet and can get re-acquainted. Erin Feis celebrates our Irish culture with music, sports, arts, crafts, religious services, and with food and beverage. For more information and specific dates of the festival, click HERE.

The Annual East Peoria Festival of Lights kicks off with the Parade of Lights the Saturday night following Thanksgiving, and continues with nightly displays thru New Year's! Other events include the FOLEPI Open Golf Outing, the Festival of Lights Queen Pageant, the River Trail Classic, Historic Holiday Tradition, Festival of Lights Holiday Cruise, and many more. Home of the Nestlé/Libby's pumpkin packing plant, over 80% of the world's canned pumpkin is processed here in Morton. In September 1978, then Governor James Thompson declared Morton, Illinois, "The Pumpkin Capital of the World." Morton celebrates the canning season every September with the Pumpkin Festival, and 2009 will be the festival's 43nd year.

From opening day ceremonies to the giant festival parade, the Morton Pumpkin Festival delights all ages with family style entertainment, carnival rides, foot races, food tents, merchants tent, craft show, parade and pumpkins. The food is delectable. Butterfly pork chops and pumpkin pie are our specialty, but have you ever tried pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin pancakes or pumpkin fudge?
